My experience of Windows Vista has come to an end. Tonight I uninstalled Vista and installed Windows Server 2003 SP1. I gave it 6 weeks and in those six weeks I had so many problems, most of all with it burning through the processor. For a normal computer user I can see the appeal, but to a tech who is used to control, it is no good. Its confusing and a challenge to use.

Once again I have heard of someone who got one of the free copys of Windows Vista and has had problems. Earlier Cormac Moylan posted Show Time Microsoft Vista Installation is on the Clock on his blog, Cormac Moylan. He was installing his free copy of Vista from Microsoft Ireland.
Straight away he ran into problems…… (more…)

I would advise anyone who is using Vista to be careful of any sort of software that updates, make sure the software is certified for Vista. All you have to do is read Tom Raftery’s IT blog, he ran into alot of problems updating his Nokia N70 firmware on a Vista machine. I’m thinking that he didn’t check if the software was published by Nokia saying it works for Vista. But doing any sort of firmware update can be a risk.

Lately my laptop running Vista has developed a problem with unzipping compressed folders. I tried to unzip a compressed folder 284K, my laptop with 1gb of ram was uncompressing at 1kb a second. And after a couple of minutes, the time remaining jumped to 25 minutes remaining. With only 1kb left.

To clear your DNS cache on Vista you cant do the normal, Start > Run > cmd and type in ipconfig /flushdns because of the administrator security now in vista.

The Vista OS is pretty cool, but one thing I don’t like is not being able to set the RSS feed in the settings for the RSS reader. And after doing a quick search I found out you need to subscribe in Internet Explorer to a feed and it will be displayed in your side bar.

Yesterday I got home from work to find a package from Microsoft Ireland, a free copy of Windows Vista Home Premium. I was very excited about Vista and most of all about the Aero Desktop and 3D Flip.
