By default Flash video is not in the MIME type list of Windows IIS because of this IIS doesn’t know how to handle it and Flash videos will not work until you do the following.

  1. Select the site to configure in IIS, right click and select “Properties”
  2. Under HTTP Headers Tab, select “File Types” under the MIME Map section and select “New Type”
  3. Type “.flv” as the associated extension and “video/x-flv” as the content type.
  4. Select “OK” and restart IIS. (click START > Run > type: cmd > type: iisreset)

And thats it, your all done. Now you can view Flash videos served from IIS.

* Please note: Having Flash Professional, Flash Video Converter or FMS installed on the machine with IIS, will have the MIME type added during the install
